The class has, as expected, proven to be a fantastic addition to the Midlands PKA family and is breeding some potential young stars of the future …

We are getting close to our maximum class student limit now so if you do have anyone interested in attending don’t delay getting them to come down so to avoid any disappointment because when the level has been met they will be put on a waiting list ….

Kickboxing is a popular combat sport that combines a wide variety of  techniques using nearly every part of your body.

Midlands PKA Kickboxing offer kickboxing classes in Ilkeston and Eastwood. We welcome everybody to a friendly, non pressurised environment where our we will help you get achieve your personal goals.

We know that everyone’s reasons for starting a martial arts or weight loss program are different that’s why our classes are taught so you can work at your own pace.

Official results for the Huntingtons Desease Charity Tournament November 13th 2011

Around 60 fights were held along with padwork demonstrations from the Juniors.

The charity was chosen after one our members sadly lost his mother to the Disease, himself also a carrier.

Midlands PKA Kickboxing took home an impressive 4 Gold and 4 Silver medals and helped raise an amazing £1,165 for the charity.
Well done to everyone that took part and a massive thank you to everyone who helped make the event such a success.

New for 2011 is ‘Little Dragons Kickboxing’

Little Dragons Kickboxing classes are designed for 4 to 8 year olds.  It is an excellent way for any child who wants to have fun, whilst learning Martial Arts, self-defense, co-ordination and discipline.  The classes are for the children to have fun, whilst learning respect, and how to get along with other children and learning how to pay attention whilst being taught the very basics of kickboxing.  This class is often a child’s first learning environment before attending formal education.

 Class every Monday 6.00 pm – 6.45 pm
Victoria Park Leisure Centre, Ilkeston

Key points about childrens martial arts -

In the Little Dragons Class there is NO CONTACT or any type of fighting/sparring.  As with our regular kickboxing classes we do not teach our students simply to punch and kick each other. With all our junior classes any type of contact is done using specifically designed equipment for children. We will teach your child a wide variety of skills such as respect for others, safety and discipline.

We use a simple grading or progressive reward scheme that is not as formal or tested as our regular gradings. The children are given a ‘Star’ to wear on their belt as they demonstrate understanding of basic techniques.

As well as being taught basic martial arts skills and techniques your child is also taught -

Each class has a particular theme such as balance, co-ordination, memory, working as a team, home safety amongst many others. It is taught in a fun and interesting way that your child can easily understand using simplified drills and techniques from our regular kickboxing classes.

The class is taught by midlands PKA instructor Jo Jones who is a full time parent and has lots of experience with teaching children martial arts and classes outside of our regular kickboxing classes. Jo is also assisted by Coach Amie Thacker, because of her age Amie has great connections with the Children/Juniors and aspires herself to be a primary school teacher.

We are hoping to raise some money this time for the Huntington Disease Association (www.hda.org.uk) which is close to a few of our students hearts after they have recently lost family members and are suffers themselves.

As well as proceeds from the fighter entries and spectator tickets we are also organising a raffle, which could not be made possible without the generosity of students from all clubs and local businesses. Also the money taken from the refreshment stands and programmes will be donated.
